Dan & Brandy

Dan and Brandy were married on an August afternoon at Indian Springs Metropark.  It rained a little, but nothing could dampen the amazing spirits of these two.  By the time their wedding day rolled around, we were friends.

I got to know them during their engagement shoot in downtown Detroit. We initially met at a bar (as opposed to the usual coffee shop chat), and the first thing they did was insist on feeding me.  I knew immediately that we would become friends, and that feeling only grew as I spent more time with them.

I love the venue they chose for their wedding.  Indian Springs Metropark is spectacular, with rolling hills of tall grass, tons of trees, and a beautiful wooden reception hall.  The park showcases nature at its best, and has so much character.  Oh, and stay out of the long grass because there are SNAKES!  But fear not, the venue gave us lots of forewarning.  The Discovery Centre was a great spot to raise glasses of champagne, with floor to ceiling windows looking out on the pond below.

Brandy looked amazing in the wedding dress of her dreams, an elegant strapless lace gown with matching lace heels.  And Dan looked smooth in a tailored grey suit and black tie.  Dan’s groomsmen all wore grey as well, as the bridesmaids were pretty in pastel green.

It actually rained right up until the ceremony, and then, a mini miracle happened—the rain stopped! The couple said their vows outside, shared a passionate kiss, and started to walk back down the aisle, just as the rain picked back up – Mother Nature’s little gift to the bride and groom.

Dan & Brandy’s son, Jayce, was a part of the wedding festivities, and it was so great to meet the little guy I had heard so much about.

The reception was a real party, with a great DJ playing some great music that got everyone dancing.  Brandy even tried her hand at the DJ thing!  I’m so happy to have met these two, and even happier that I could document such an important day for them.

Where do I begin? I stumbled upon Jesse Speelman Photography while I was snooping through pictures of the wedding of an acquaintance of mine. I was absolutely blown away by the unique style and beauty of the pictures. Everything looked perfect! Being that I was newly engaged, I knew that I had to have Jesse photograph our wedding. We first met Jesse at a bar near our home (which he drove to through rush hour traffic) to discuss his work. Right away I liked him. He was very laid back but professional at the same time. Needless to say, we hired him and never looked back. Our engagement photos were taken downtown Detroit at a brewery where we shared some beers (cider for him) and got to know each other. I honestly felt like we had been friends forever... Read More
