Josh & Cara

On a sunny October day, Cara and Josh were married in the rural splendor of Sherwood, Michigan (population: 309).

I met Cara when she stood up in a prior wedding I shot (Ray & Sarah).  I thought there was something special about her when I met her.  On the evening of Sarah’s wedding, I sat at dinner with Cara’s then boyfriend, Josh.  We chatted over dinner, and he just happened to mention that he was thinking about asking Cara to marry him!  I made sure to get a great picture of them that night.  You know, just in case!

So when they reached out with their big news, I was so excited for them, and already felt a party of their story.  And then the next proposal… they asked me to be their photographer.  Of course, I said yes!  Because of the distance, we did a Skype date, and plans were underway!

The morning of the wedding, I woke up extra early to make the drive to Sherwood, Michigan.  The wedding took place at the Stone Barn, a wonderful renovated barn just south of Athens, Michigan off of M66 South.  The barn is surrounded by acres of farmland, making it a peaceful and intimate spot for weddings, and definitely will bring out the country in even the most citified person.  The staff were wonderful—helpful and so nice. Everything happened on site at the Stone Barn, and there was a real buzz of excitement in the wide open country air.  Josh and Cara were a dream to work with.  They made the day relaxed and fun for everyone.  It was so nice to catch up with Sarah and some of her bridesmaids again.

Cara was absolutely lovely in a lacey sheath wedding gown with a vibrant bouquet of fall colors.  Josh was handsome with just a little bit of quirky with his grey tailored suit and bright red bowtie.  After the ceremony, we managed to sneak away just before the sun went down for some stunning portraits in the fading lemony sunlight.  We were welcomed back to the warmth and charm of the Stone Barn and its guests for the evening.  Josh and Cara cut the cake with the very same utensils that Cara’s parents used at their wedding, and then everyone danced the night away under the twinkling lights.

I left the wedding and headed home, physically tired, but feeling emotionally fulfilled.  It was an amazing wedding.  Josh and Cara, thank you for making me a part of your day!
