Kevin & Amy
Kevin and Amy were married on a windswept autumn day last year at the Packard Proving Grounds in Shelby Township, Michigan. We didn’t see as much of the sun as we had hoped, with stubborn clouds clinging overhead, but it didn’t faze Kevin and Amy in the least. Perhaps because they only had eyes for each other!
These two were so much fun—rather unconventional and outside-of-box types that I always feel drawn to. Amy is close friends with one of my second shooters, Nick Parente. He sent Amy my way, and I’m so glad he did! She’s a very creative soul, and does motion graphics for a living – like Nick. In fact, Amy designed, illustrated, and assembled the invitations herself. Kevin loves working on cars, so you can see the inspiration for the wedding venue!
Kevin and Amy have known each other since they were 15 or 16 years old, but don’t really remember how they actually met. It’s like they have just always known each other.
Now, you may be asking, what are the Packard Proving Grounds? It’s quite amazing actually, with a ton of history. Back in 1925, the Packard Car Company realized they couldn’t keep testing their cars on the streets of Detroit, and built a grand testing facility and showplace for these prestigious and enormously successful (now classic) cars. Amazingly, it also developed and tested aircraft engines. Such an interesting spot to tie the knot! Its setting on 14 acres is so peaceful, and perfect, for a wedding.
The ceremony took place at the Lodge Garage, where you can open or close the old fashioned style garage doors, depending on weather.
Amy wore a gorgeous A-line gown with a lace back that beautifully showcased the intricate design of her tattoos. Kevin wore a chocolate brown suit and an easy smile that always reached his eyes.
Amy’s creativity shone through with a multitude of handmade touches throughout the decorations – including Packard wooden pins in lieu of boutonnieres.
The day went by in a flash, and suddenly we were seeing the wedded couple off under a shower of sparklers, signaling a bright and beautiful life to come. Kevin and Amy, I hope we meet again. It was a blast!
