Matt & Heidi
Matt and Heidi were married under a cascade of snowflakes in Detroit last November. It was the first day of snow in Detroit, and rather indicative of just how magical this day would be.
They exchanged vows at the historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in the heart of Detroit’s Greektown, the third oldest Roman Catholic parish in Detroit! This gorgeous old church has soaring brick towers and the interior is spectacularly ornate and detailed. I have walked by this church many times, but it was the first time I’d been inside. Needless to say, I was wowed.
Their reception venue was Henry Ford’s Piquette Plant in Midtown, the birthplace of the Model T—the car that changed the landscape of the automotive world forever. The plant is a great old building, known to be one of the premiere automotive heritage sites in the world. The best part? It’s a public museum during the week, so everyone should check this place out!
I was lucky enough to get to shoot Matt and Heidi’s engagement in downtown Detroit just a couple of weeks earlier. It was so good to see these two again!
Heidi was a beauty! Her hair was swept up with playful ringlets framing her face and a halo of delicate flowers and baby’s breath. While many brides choose strapless, Heidi chose a deep V neck sleeveless gown that showed off the amazing tattoo on her upper arm. Matt wore a tailored black suit that would work just as well on the red carpet as it did at their wedding.
The wooden tree trunks that were used for center pieces were actually from a huge old tree in the front yard of the home that Heidi grew up in, right outside her bedroom window.
Matt crafted many of the reception decorations on a wood cutter, so guests could play Connect Four, Jenga, and more. What a great idea!
It was a great day filled with wonderful people and homemade personal touches. I love when the bride and groom work as a team to pull off their perfect day, and Matt and Heidi were just that—an awesome team and a fantastic couple. Good luck to you both!
No words can describe how awesome it was working with Jesse. Jesse was just one of the many photographers I contacted about having photograph our wedding and he was (by a long shot) the most responsive and the only to offer to meet up in person so he can show us his work and to make sure we jived which was a breath of fresh air...
