David & Valicha

September in Michigan is an incredible time of year for a wedding.  The air is beginning to crisp and the leaves are starting to change, but lots of lush green still remains, creating the perfect backdrop for an intimate and beautiful wedding.

David and Valicha hired me online and we worked out all the details over the wonder of the internet.  I met them in person for the first time the morning of their wedding, but I felt like I knew them already. We quickly fell into the rhythm of the day.  Valicha’s mother and grandmother designed and coordinated every detail of the wedding, with much of the décor coming from Etsy!  David and Valicha planned their wedding in just five months, but the whole day came together flawlessly.  I loved the CD favors, a reflection of David and Valicha’s love of music.

Valicha and David exuded casual elegance.  Valicha wore an intricately detailed white gown and David sported a light-colored, suit that contrasted nicely against the grey suits of his groomsmen.  The bridesmaids wore ruby-colored dresses, and the effect was stunning.

Valicha was a dream to photograph!  Her smile was absolutely infectious, and she lit up the day.  She was so tiny standing next to her Stepfather, who towered over her as they walked down the aisle!

The wedding took place at the Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township.  This is the second wedding I’ve shot at Stony Creek, but I’ve photographed a handful of engagements here as well.  The park sweeps across two counties and boasts almost 4500 acres!  Needless to say we had loads of options for portraits.

I really love shooting multicultural weddings.  Bringing in different cultural or religious backgrounds and experiences to an already beautiful event can provide a bridging connection between families and make the couple’s wedding a truly unique and personal day for them.

David and Valicha chose to keep their wedding small and intimate, under 100 people, allowing the bride and groom to really chat and interact with their guests.  Everyone had a great time, and when the newly wedded couple drove off at the end of the evening in a very cool vintage Ford Meteor, it was like saying goodbye to old friends.
